We especially love beer, but we also love anything fermented and/or distilled with flavor. One could say that we are flavorholics. We will taste pretty much anything and everything at least once no matter how unique, unusual, or different, and if we like it, we will gladly imbibe of it again. All we ask for is a little TLC, an irreverent disregard for corporate mediocrity, and a passion for all things local and sustainable. Cheers and Beers!

Cellar Series Belgian Dubbel btl #200/600 ~ Natty Greenes Pub & Brewing Company

Appearance:

Woodsy hues with claret edges. No head other than a thin khaki collar. Swirls with nothing.

Nose:

Massive candied sweetness taints and consumes all. Maraschino cherries, fruitcake, Sunsweet prunes. Brown sugar, maple, and toffee. Burnt sugars along the edges.

Palate:

Very very sweet but thankfully not heavy – the sweetness is still very intrusive. Candied apple skins, maraschino cherries, and Sunsweet prunes. Sweetness and flavors hit hard and fade fast – a good thing otherwise it would be cloying also. Weird indescribable finish in the back of my mouth. More maraschino cherries, this time dipped in maple syrup and toffee.

Final Thoughts:

I love the Abbey Dubbel style and unfortunately this contribution by Natty Greenes did not hit the spot, any spot really for that matter. Way too much sweetness. Of course, if they wanted to give it another go, I’ll be more than happy to taste that one, too.
